Living Sky School Division discussed its organizational plans at its recent board meeting in North Battleford.
It will be mainly status quo for board representation for the new school year. However, the school division announced Richard Hiebert retired from his role as trustee after many years with the board.
Ronna Pethick was again elected as board chair and Shaun Weber as vice-chair for the division.
According to the school division’s news release, Pethick has served as a board trustee for 25 years. This marks her seventh year as board chair.
“I am honoured to be the board chair once again. I believe our school division is doing great things for students and I am so humbled to be a part of it,” she said. “Locally, elected boards are vital as they give our communities a voice; they play a very important role in education.”
For Shaun Weber, who represents North Battleford, this is both his second year as a trustee and as vice-chair on the board.
“I am looking forward to continuing the good work the division is doing and building on the progress made this past year,” he said.
Long-serving trustee Hiebert, who represented North Battleford, has officially resigned from his role. Hiebert’s last meeting was Oct. 26. His resignation was formally accepted at the board’s Nov. 9 meeting.
“This has been a 12-year routine [coming to meetings], exchanging views and ideas with some remarkable people,” he said. “I appreciate all the support that Ronna [Pethick] and the board have provided.”
Hiebert said to the board after it accepted his resignation: “You’re doing very important work – and I know you have our students, staff and communities in your heart.”
The board will next start making plans on how to fill the position left vacant with Hiebert’s departure. The issue will be discussed at a future board meeting.
