The Battlefords North Stars return to action Sunday, to wrap up their three-game road trip with an afternoon matinee within the division, against the Notre Dame Hounds.
The North Stars enter play first in the Nutrien Division and second overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings, with a 33-12-4 record through 49 games.
With just seven games remaining on their regular season schedule, the Stars will be eager to snap their first two-game losing skid since late January. Coming off back-to-back losses in Yorkton and Melville to open their trip, the team now sits just two points up on Humboldt, and three ahead of Melfort for second overall.
Notre Dame is fourth in the division and 12th overall, with a 14-33-2 record through 49 games. While already officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Hounds have played some of their best hockey of late, having won two straight.
North Stars’ forward, Kian Bell became the first player in the SJHL to hit the 80-point plateau last night, and enters play with an incredible 80 points (32 goals, 48 assists) in just 35 games this season.
At the other end, Cole Wirun leads the Hounds’ attack, with a team-high 15 goals and 39 points in 37 games. Coming off a three-point night Thursday to lead his team to a 4-3 win over Nipawin, Wirun enters play on a five-game point streak with two goals and six assists.
Sunday’s NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show beginning at 4 p.m., and puck drop to follow at 4:30 p.m.
