Local volleyball teams in the northwest are off to a mixed start at Saskatchewan high school provincials this weekend.
North Battleford Comprehensive lost their opening two matches on Friday at the 5A Senior Girls Championship in Swift Current. In the first match, they faced a tough opponent in Regina city champion Miller Comprehensive Catholic, losing 25–22, 25–16. In their second match against Weyburn, the Vikings lost in three sets, 25–20, 20–25, 15–13.
At the 4A tournament in Moosomin, John Paul Collegiate II’s senior girls won their opening match 25–21, 25–14 over Carpenter High School from Meadow Lake. JPII was last seen ahead in their match against Melfort. The Carpenter Spartans went on to lose their next match against Yorkton in straight sets.
In the 5A Senior Boys Championship taking place in Saskatoon, Lloydminster Comprehensive lost their opener 25–22, 25–19 to Yorkton Regional before rebounding in the next tilt against Saskatoon Bethlehem, 25–19, 25–23.
